| | | VOLUNTEERS MAKE A HUGE CONTRIBUTION!
The Santa Fe Animal Shelter & Humane Society maintains an active volunteer program, and it is an integral part of our daily operations. Our devoted team of 190-plus volunteers spend thousands of hours every year helping to care for the animals.
Whether you wish to volunteer by spending time directly with the animals or by doing clerical work, adoption counseling or any number of other tasks, we and the animals welcome your help.
All volunteers begin by attending a three-hour orientation designed to inform about the many important elements of being involved with SFAS&HS, as well as further training specific to particular volunteer jobs.

Note to individuals needing to complete community service requirements:
We need a minimum of two weeks notice to enter you into the schedule. Requests made less than two weeks ahead of time usually cannot be granted.
We are happy to try and accommodate you, but please note that you will not be able to work hands-on with the animals. The training requirements for hands-on time with animals are more extensive than most community service allows time for.
SHELTER FOSTER FAMILIES
We need foster families! Our foster families care for animals that aren’t ready for adoption. Most foster placements are two to six weeks, and are for nursing mothers and their litters, young kittens, puppies, injured pets or animals needing socialization or time away from the shelter.
