Pets of the Week

Molly
Molly, an eight year old Plott Hound, needed some extra attention so we sent her to a loving foster home. This is what they have to say about her. "Molly is a calm, gentle girl. She has been with us in foster, and we have enjoyed watching her as she gets comfortable and gets accustomed to living inside a house. Every day she learns something new, and we are delighted to see her reveal a sweet and sometimes silly personality. She gets along with other dogs, and is just a bit shy with new people, though she does love to be petted. She needs someone who can help her continue to gain confidence."

Deena
Deena is a sensitive and sweet girl who is looking for her forever home. She is a little uncertain with change so she may be best suited for a secure and quiet home environment rather than a busy and active household, but she would make an excellent lap cat. She has had a rough life up until now so she would prefer to be an indoor only cat.

Madrigal
Madrigal is a dude with awesome catitude. He is a friendly but firey boy. The scars on his nose tell you he has had a hard life, so he would love to be in safe and inside only home. He does well with other cats and loves kittens.

Izzie
Izzie is an adorable little girl with a tiny squeak to match. She does not get along well with other cats, but she is affectionate around people.

Ridge
Ridge is a fun and goofy hound. This handsome boy would be an excellent companion for someone with an active lifestyle. He is friendly and outgoing, and has energy to boot. He loves people and loves to play.

Momma
Momma stole our hearts, and we know she'll steal your's. Momma may not look like much of a lover-dog, but she is. This girl is a sweet and affectionate pup who just wants to be around people. She is good in a car and on a leash, but sometimes she can be a brat with other dogs, so meet and greets are a must.

Too many animals. Not enough homes.

Do your part and spay or neuter your pet. For more information click here.

The Santa Fe Animal Shelter & Humane Society maintains an active volunteer program, and it is an integral part of our daily operations. Our devoted team of 200-plus volunteers spend thousands of hours every year helping to care for the animals.

Whether you wish to volunteer by spending time directly with the animals or by doing clerical work, adoption counseling or any number of other tasks, we and the animals welcome your help.

All volunteers begin by attending a three-hour orientation designed to inform about the many important elements of being involved with SFAS&HS, as well as further training specific to particular volunteer jobs.

If you are interested in volunteering your time at the Shelter, please call the Volunteer Coordinator at 983-4309 x128 for more information.

Note to individuals needing to complete community service requirements:
We need a minimum of two weeks notice to enter you into the schedule. Requests made less than two weeks ahead of time usually cannot be granted.

We are happy to try and accommodate you, but please note that you will not be able to work hands-on with the animals. The training requirements for hands-on time with animals are more extensive than most community service allows time for.

Shelter Foster Families

We need foster families! Our foster families care for animals that aren’t ready for adoption. Most foster placements are two to six weeks, and are for nursing mothers and their litters, young kittens, puppies, injured pets or animals needing socialization or time away from the shelter.

For more information or to become a Shelter Foster Family, call 983-4309 x128 or e-mail foster@sfhumanesociety.org.
