| Suki |
| Meet Suki, wonder-dog extraordinaire! She came to SFASHS after being hit by a car, unable to use her back legs. But this 6 year old beauty did not let that stop her. With TLC from the Shelter and the wonderful Sue Kelvey at Bounce Back Integrative Veterinary Rehabilitation (Bouncebackvetrehab.com) she can walk and is getting stronger with every visit! So far she has gone to Bounce Back twice, with her last visit on 05/01/13. Right now she is getting acupuncture which she loves! As well as hydrotherapy and she is doing great with sit/stands to help build muscle tone, which has improved already by her second visit! Come meet Suki and fall in love with this special, gentle-hearted girl. She also gets along with other dogs and is generally pretty polite! So if you think she would be a good fit, please consider her! |

| Wilbur becomes a wonder dog at Santa Fe Tails! |
|
Santa Fe Tails Dog Academy & Daycare goes out of its way to help Shelter animals in need. Here’s more on the business: Wilbur’s story is one of commitment, confidence and success. All dogs that come to board or attend day care at Santa Fe Tails must first pass a temperament evaluation to see if they are appropriate candidates. Sometimes, those dogs that do not pass the evaluation are put into the Santa Fe Tails’ social program. Frequently these dogs are overwhelmed, fearful and lack social and communication skills because of little or no dog-to-dog interaction. The social program consists of a one-hour training session with Joey or Hannah in a controlled setting tailored to each dog’s particular needs. Sometimes it just takes one or two sessions before the dog is ready to attend regular day care, but it can take longer — as in Wilbur’s case. |
Wilbur, a 2-year-old brindle pit bull, had little-to-no exposure to other dogs when he came for his evaluation in September 2010. His evaluation began as all evaluations do — with an introduction to Kiya, Joey and Hannah’s fawn Great Dane. Wilbur instantly went on the offensive, growling, snarling and lunging at Kiya. Some doggie day-care facilities may have just rejected Wilbur, but Santa Fe Tails believes in giving every dog a chance. Fortunately for Wilbur, his person was also committed to helping him. After six months in the social program, Wilbur was accepted into day care and now is a dog that happily plays with all the dogs at Santa Fe Tails. For that Wilbur — and his person — are grateful.
